What is a Slinkskin?
New Zealand is known for its quality farming and agricultural environment with its unrivalled clean, green image.
Unfortunately in New Zealand like in other sheep farming countries, during early spring each year, a small number of newly born lambs do not survive.
These casualties of nature are processed in New Zealand to produce one of the worlds softest and lightest double face leathers known as a slinkskin.
History
Some thirty years ago a group of South Island farmers saw an opportunity for processing these lambs. A nationwide network of collectors grade and collect slink lambs. Within hours, the skins are removed and transported to Slinkskins' tannery in New Zealand's Southland for final processing.
Today Slinkskins Limited (a division of Hazlett & Sons) along with its associate companies, has gained recognition as the world leader in the tanning of Babylamb skins.
Sheepskin Gloves
Gloves for driving or other activities need to provide dexterity. Unfortunately traditional sheepskin with its thick leather and dense wool pile is far from ideal for good fitting gloves. Luckily baby lambskin slinkskins are perfect for sheep skin gloves.
Our top-of-the-range Hazletts sheepskin gloves are made from Slinkskins' premium grade baby lambskins. These skins are used by some of the top fashion houses around the world for both gloves and garments.
The gloves with their small curls are lightweight and remarkably soft, yet have thermal qualities that provide warmth even on the coldest days. The velvety soft suede finish is protected with Scotgard protector.
Sheepskin Mittens
As well as baby lambskin shearling gloves you can also buy our sheepskin mittens that are made from beta lambs which are older than slinkskins but younger than regular lambskins. These provide a soft slightly curly wool which is ideal for both our adult shearling mittens and lambskin baby mittens.
